My mother did believe in some sort of superstition or an unknown Asian old school remedy, which you all would probably find extremely disgusting. She was taught by her mother, my grandmother, who were also taught by her mother, my great grandmama (and god knows if she was taught by her mother too) that when you have your very first period ever, to take your nasty panties with blood stains and wipe your face with it while you shower. As disgusting as that sounds and as much as I dare not believe in such a thing, my mother practically MADE me do it when I was 12 years old. The said result will be, well, good healthy skin for the rest of your life.
I'm not saying it works and all, but I've probably had a total of about 10 pimples MY WHOLE LIFE. So me being 22, that's approximately a pimple a year. I've never had a black or white head either. I think it only happened once when I had like 3 tiny pimples at ONE time and I was already freaking out. Then I would be pimple-free for the next 3 years. Growing up during my teen years and seeing all my pimpled lil teen friends, I was always afraid that I will be undergoing that phase soon. But I never did. My mom also has really nice skin. I honestly think it was mere genetics and not the 1st blood stain that gave me the skin i have now, but it was quite an experience! A gross one though!
But anyways, back to my point. Here's my step by step make-up routine:
- I moisturize my face with Nivea Body Lotion
- I apply on using my fingers, MAC Prep + Prime Face Protection Visage SPF 50 - It gives my skin a nice satin finish plus protects it from the sun with the SPF 50. It also helps my make-up to stay on my face for a long time
- Using a concealer brush, I apply MAC Studio Stick Concealer in NW30 on my eyelids as my "eyeshadow primer." I would like to buy Urban Decay's Primer Potion when my wallet permits, but for now, it does the trick. Without some sort of a primer, the colors of my eyeshadow are less vibrant and doesn't stay on for too long even if it is MAC eyeshadow.
- On a fairly special day, or depending on my mood, or when I have a lot of time to waste, I put on eyeshadow that sometimes, I like to match with what color I'm wearing.
-I contour (a.k.a. cut the crease of) my eyelids with MAC Espresso using a mini shader brush from Sonia Kashuk.
-With a color of my choice, I apply with a (travel size) MAC 252 Large Shader Brush from the inner corner of my lids and then going over lightly to the outer corners.
-Using the same mini shader brush from Sonia Kashuk, I apply MAC in Black Tied on the outer corners towards the middle.
-With a large tapered blending brush from Sonia Kashuk and MAC Powder Blush in Taupe, I blend the crease (where the eyeshadow and my skin meet)
-I use the same brush to highlight underneath the eyebrows with a white colored eyeshadow from Lancome's discontinued Color Focus Palette 4 Ombres in 4Dreaming.
-I used MAC Make-up Wipes to clean up the fallen eyeshadow underneath my eyes and to make a straight clean cut from the outer corners of my eyes to the outer tip of my eyebrows. - (On a lazy day or in a rush, I skip step 4) I line my eyes with a small brush from Beauty Bar and MAC Fluidline in Black Track. I like to put it on thick and with a winged tip to make my eyes look even bigger. I also line my lower lash line. For the inner rim, I line it with a white eye pencil from Prestige for a brighter look. For a darker look, I use Nichido Mineral Kohl pencil in Onyx (black)
- I fill in my brows with a cheap brown Careline Color Pencil I bought from a local gas station. It was only a few months ago when I grew fond of filling in my eyebrows so I have not invested yet on a really good brow filler. Before then, I never touched my brows.
- I contour my cheeks and jawline with a (travel size) MAC 168 Large Angled Contour Brush and MAC Powder Blush in Taupe. Using the same brush, I put on Revlon's Golden Affair blush in Berry Daring on the apples of my cheeks.
- I highlight my cheeks, forehead and chin with MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Petticoat.
- For a matte finish, I put on MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation in C4 with a MAC 187 Duo Fibre Stippling Brush in a circular motion. For a satin finish, I put on MAC Mineralize Satinfinish SPF 15 Foundation in NC37.
- I line and fill in my lips with Nichido Lip Pencil in Rosette. It helps my lipstick stay on longer! Depending on my mood, I put on MAC Matte lipstick in Taupe for a natural shade more frequent than MAC Lustre in Lustering, a more pink-ish hue. With a lip brush from Bobbi Brown, I put gloss on top of my lipstick for added shine. I use Lancom Juicy Tubes for extra extra shine, "Papaya" from a Bobbi Brown Shimmering Gloss Palette for shimmer or my Mentha Lip Tint from Bath & Body Works if I'm on the go.
There you have it! 10 steps to my make-up routine! I hope it made any sense! If I can add one more step, I would say that I always take a picture of my face after I'm done just to make sure it looks good on camera! There are times when I've walked out the door not doing that and then by the end of the night when I look at my photos, I'd realize my make-up looks like shit on my camera! Pictures last forever! :)
Oh and on Step #4, that's my go-to eyeshadow look. When I'm feeling creative, i just usually brush color everywhere until I create something nice :) I have some of my old eyeshadow pictures on two blogs posted almost exactly a year ago! what a coincidence!
